Using a variety of products and techniques, bootblacks keep leather fresh and loved. They also offer the unique experience of combining human interaction with maintenance, and for many, this 

Through self-constructed networks and organizations such as the Leather Archives and Museum, bootblacks ensure the continuation of not only the leather itself, but also the history of leather and the leather community. This body of work is a mixture of portraits of bootblacks and still lifes of the tools they use to maintain leather.
